You have probably strolled into Artists & Heirlooms/Crowley Gallery at 115 Historic 25th Street sometime over the past 7 years since Tami Crowley opened this gem of a space that offers fine art and antiques. On April 1st along with the First Friday Art Stroll on Historic 25th St., Crowley Gallery will open their new café, unveiling their new name as Crowley Gallery and Café. Chef John Ewing, who trained at the Culinary Institute of America in New York and has been Head Chef at a variety of high end dining establishments, has come on board as the new Head Chef. His eclectic cuisine background has Caribbean influences from his time as Head Chef at a restaurant on a small island in the Bahamas and in Fort Lauderdale, as well as a European flair when he was an apprentice studying under an Austrian chef.
“I have thought about opening a café in our gallery location for quite some time. I wanted to enhance the experience for the art stroller/collector with an offering of inspired cuisine”, says Tami Crowley, owner of Crowley Gallery and Café. “We have a space that is different than any other gallery in the Ogden area. I knew with John Ewing on board that we could create a menu that would be highly appealing to almost any palate. We are excited to be able to offer unique dishes unlike any others on Historic 25th street and in an atmosphere that is full of beauty with fine art, home décor, jewelry and antiques surrounding the dining area.”
Following her passion for the Arts, Tami sat on Mayor Godfrey’s Art Council for 5 years and has greatly contributed to the art scene in Ogden. She co-created the Ogden Arts Festival with Suzy Daily and runs the plein air competition each year. “It does not surprise me that Tami is opening a café inside her beautiful gallery because it is a natural extension with fine art and great food”, Mayor Godfrey comments. “Tami is a very creative individual that has done a lot to promote growth of the art community in our city. It also adds another fine eating establishment to Ogden and Historic 25th Street, which supports continual growth in the area and gives our residents and visitors another wonderful option when choosing where to dine out.”
Chef Ewing has designed an incredible menu that will include unique specialty sandwiches, salads, soups, sides, a daily pasta and soup special, as well as desserts. The Blackened Tilapia sandwich will go for $8, which is complemented with sharp cheddar cheese, tomatoes and Crowley’s own tarragon mayonnaise. The Onion Soup Au Gratin will be on the menu at all times and served traditionally in a crock with melted Swiss cheese for $4. Salads with homemade dressings including a green goddess and Caesar will be offered with or without chicken or shrimp and averaging $7 to $8 plus $3 for either extra protein. A couple sides include Moros Y Christianos, a black beans and rice dish for $4, a Broccoli Slaw for $4 and a Fresh Basil Penne Pasta with balsamic vinegar dressing for $4. Chocolate Bread Pudding will be offered for those with a sweet tooth for $5. Chef John Ewing adds, "We believe the food and pairings to be inspired by the Fine Art and unique beautiful surroundings, as well as the Fine Art and antiques to be complemented by the artistic design of our cuisine."
Crowley Gallery and Café will be open Monday through Saturday from 11:00AM till 6:00PM with plans to extend their hours in the future. Eventually the Café will carry a variety of wines and beers with suggested pairings that will compliment the flavors of the food. There are plans to hold upcoming wine tastings and a variety of community events in the upper gallery space. You can follow Crowley Gallery and Café on Facebook where they will be posting daily specials and upcoming events.
The Café Grand Opening will take place on Friday, April 1st from 4:00PM till 9:00PM surrounding the First Friday Art Stroll. The talented Jerry Hancock will be the featured artist that night in the gallery. Jerry, who resides in Ogden, is well known for his traditional style pastel and oil paintings of animal and still life subject matter. The subject matter of his beautiful still life paintings will also be on display creating a unique personal connection to each painting. Jerry has won countless awards and is a local favorite.
